Where our data comes from
Three primary-source institutions supply every figure on this site:
- World Bank Development Data Group — annual development indicators (GDP, life expectancy, population, and 40+ more) for Sierra Leone, 1960 onwards. Licensed CC BY 4.0.
- World Health Organization (WHO) — Ebola Situation Reports covering the 2014–2016 West African outbreak.
- Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) — certified presidential election results for the 2018 and 2023 cycles.
Indicator definitions
We reproduce each indicator under its World Bank definition: “GDP (current US$)” is gross domestic product at purchaser prices in current United States dollars; “Life expectancy at birth” is total years a newborn would live if prevailing mortality patterns persisted; and so on. Definitions are reproduced verbatim on individual indicator pages.
Processing
We extract the Sierra Leone subset from each source, preserve missing values as gaps (we do not interpolate), and compute simple decade aggregates. No smoothing, no forecasting. Our summary-statistic blocks use plain arithmetic means, minima, maxima, and medians over the available annual observations.
Update cadence
Indicators are refreshed weekly against the upstream sources; the “Last updated” date printed on each page reflects the most recent refresh.
